CoCo's Corner!

This part of my blog is dedicated to weekly news, advice, Courtney-ism's, and possibly even videos! My beautiful cousin, Ryleigh, has taken to calling me "CoCo," so I'm creating a section of my personal blog after that lovely little nickname before her name for me changes again! It used to be "CaCa," it occasionally comes out "Cokey," and it may change again in the near future, but being that "CoCo" is super cute, I'm running with it!

What's in a name?
Well, in this name there's an explanation! I named my blog "To Save a Mockingbird" after my absolute favorite book of all time. That book would be, of course, "To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee. We were required to read this book in high school and I'm glad we were because I was never very into books and I fell in love with it! Of course I changed up the name a little to fit me and my blog - I love animals and I thought "save" would be a fitting word to replace "Kill" with!

Why Blog?
Welp, I made this blog forever ago because I needed an outlet but it wasn't too successful as I didn't keep up with it. I have since revamped everything and hopefully construction will be done soon! My main reason for this blog now is my depression. I need something to commit to, and since the soccer season is over (I was a soccer coach for the YMCA this spring) this blog is what I'm committing to now! Hopefully having readers (and hopefully followers eventually) will push me to update this every single day and help my depression in the long run. I also love interior design and a few others random things, but since I'm pretty positive I'll never be an interior designer I'm going to blog about it!

Yes, I have tattoos.
That statement sounds like I have so many, but I actually only have one, plus an itty bitty second one. My first tattoo I got last February (2012) and it's a lime green cancer awareness ribbon on my right hip bone. I was friends with this great guy in high school and even after I graduated we kept in touch. Well, he was diagnosed with cancer while we were both in school and since we were both band kids and extremely close because of this, I was pretty devastated. I was actually his drum major (that's how I got to know him) and he played the trumpet. He joined marching band a little late because of football practice so we had a lot of one-on-one time while I taught him how to march since he was a freshman. We ended up becoming pretty great friends and when he was diagnosed with cancer we would talk on the phone about his progess and eventually his decline. When I was a freshman in college, he passed away. I've been seriously shaken by two deaths my entire life and his was one of them. About a year after his death I decided to get my tattoo. I got it for a number of reasons: Of course, to remember him, but also to never forget about cancer and the struggle to cure it, and also to never give up my faith. He fought until the very end and never once lost his faith. Because of his fight, I really just don't see how some people lose faith over tiny things. He's an inspiration to me. His strength and his faith were unbelievable.

Random Facts about Me!
--> I hate my natural hair color. I love brown, but mine just looks like dirt!
--> I have five animals, two of which are my "children" with my lovely boyfriend. My 3 cats are Boo (my three year-old girl), Pumpkin (my three year-old boy), and Pacha (my two year-old boy Tuxedo that's half mine, half Dillon's). My two dogs are Joe (aka Joseph - a half-Cardigan Welsh Corgi, half I have no idea, who will be seven years old in November) and Roxy (my FIRST purchased purebred dog - she's a tri Pembroke Welsh Corgi who will be three months on two months in a day!). She's half mine too. Dillon would love to claim all the animals, but we have to be specific so that if we ever do break up we know which animals he will have joint custody of!
--> I'm extremely organized - I have a file folder for everything.
--> I know all of my animals' birthdays, but only one of them is 100% accurate:
Joseph: November 20, 2006
Boo: April 21, 2010
Pumpkin: April 21, 2010
Pacha: March 10, 2011
Roxy: March 29, 2013
--> I had my tonsils removed in August of 2010 for two reasons. Number one, I got strep all the time, and number two, I had an itty-bitty third tonsil-like thing growing in the back of my throat.
--> I'm terrified of roaches and ostriches. I've cried several times because of a roach, and an ostrich attempted to do me in when I was four.
--> I'm Christian - more specifically Catholic. I'm actually really into theology period - I own an encyclopedia of Theology. Also, I'm not officially Catholic, but that's definitely the religion for me. I've gone to Catholic church for a few years now and I'm hoping to be official by the end of the year.
--> I love Christmas... My favorite thing about the holiday is all the Christmas trees!
--> I would love to work for a super girly, yet super professional, magazine company one day.
--> If I ever have kids I want twin boys (for sure) and then a girl (maybe). (Not that I can choose either way!)
--> I've had some really crazy things happen in my life, but they've molded me into who I am today.
--> I feel awkward around a LOT of people a LOT of the time. I'm working on it though!
--> I've been in love twice but I've had a feeling since day one of this relationship that he's the one.
--> I'm proud, but I really don't think in a bad way. My goal is to be successful (whether I just get my BBA, or I go on to get my MBA or PhD). If I have to say "I did it without you" when I reach that goal, that's fine with me.
--> I'm on school #3, but I didn't jump around because I enjoy it! I've had a few bumps in the road but I plan on staying with this one!
